SJK(C) POI YUK, SARAWAK

Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Poi Yuk is a rural school located in Dalat, Sarawak. The school has 115 students and everyday, they take a 5-minute boat ride across the river to get to school. The school has about 14 teachers who recently received YES Altitude phones this year to future enhance the 21st century teaching and learning experience with Frog. This year, the school was able to start using Frog more consistently after being upgraded to YES 4G internet connectivity.

Since the school started using Frog in 2017, the Headmistress, Madam Ngieng Seng Hung, has been very motivated to implement Frog successfully in the school, especially for teaching and learning. Frog Admins, Cikgu Ha Tiing Wei and Cikgu Lee Setz Tsin started initiating more Frog programmes to boost the Frog usage in school. Cikgu Taffy then took over the role as Frog Admin in 2017 to manage and organise the school’s login IDs and Frog Class schedules. SJKC Poi Yuk is also receiving support from neighbouring school, SK St Kevin.

Frog is making a difference in Teaching & Learning

To get teachers and students to use Frog more, each teacher in the school has been assigned 6 students to cultivate the Frog culture. The school encourage teachers to plan out a timetable with their assigned students to do Frog activities such as creating Sites, Assignments and doing FrogPlay quizzes.

Student Engagement

Students are more excited to learn with Frog, compared to traditional learning through textbooks and blackboards. Not only that, teachers are able to engage students better through Frog and also found that students are more willing to participate in class. They are more confident in answering questions and remember lessons that are being taught better than before.

Frog is making a difference in Community Engagement

Parents are connected with what is happening in school

Recently, the school has engaged with the Parent Teacher Association (PIBG) to give parents login IDs to Frog and also to encourage them to have internet at home for their children to use Frog at home after school.

“Frog is a good channel to improvise teachers' teaching and learning experience. Teachers have a new method of teaching and students have a new experience in learning.”

- Madam Ngieng Seng Hung, Headmistress

“Students enjoy using FrogPlay that has the Avatar feature, which is a motivation for them to perform well in answering quizzes to collect more credits to redeem costumes for their Avatars. They will always come to teacher to ask when is their turn to use FrogPlay.”

- Cikgu Taffy, Frog Admin
