Sekolah Kebangsaan St Bernard is a rural school located in Dalat, Sarawak, with over 130 students and 18 teachers. Everyday, more than half of the students need to take a boat ride across the river to get to the school.

The school started using Frog in 2016, under the influence of Cikgu Tan, one of the senior teachers in the school. Since then, the school gradually started using Frog and became active and consistent in 2017. It is Cikgu Tan’s passion and dedication to equip students with knowledge in using technology that drove the success of Frog in the school. He also received strong support from the Headteacher and Parent Teacher Association (PIBG).

Frog is making a difference in Teaching & Learning

Student Engagement

Teachers who use Frog in class find that students have become more attentive and show more interest in learning. Cikgu Tan implemented a rule for students who took boat rides to school to wear safety jackets. Students who do not follow the rule would not be allowed to enter the computer lab. Not wanting to lose a chance to visit the computer lab to use Frog, students became more discipline and responsible for their own safety. Since then, teachers have also seen improvement in students attendance.

A tool for teachers to teach better

Teachers find that they are able to conduct better and more interactive lessons through Frog. Teachers are frequently making Sites for teaching and learning, and also utilise widgets such as wall and assignment for students assessment. Teachers are also able to share links to educational websites through Frog for students to do extra reading and quizzes.

Frog is making a difference in Community Engagement

Parents are connected with what is happening in school

After seeing the positive effects of Frog on their children’s education and behaviour, parents are very supportive of Frog and even allow their children to return to school after hours to complete assignments on Frog.

Teachers come together as a community to inspire and support one another and students in 21st Century teaching and learning

In 2017, Cikgu Tan initiated that Frog be used by students to complete their final examination for the ICT subject. This initiative has caught attention of other schools from neighbouring districts to visit the school to learn more on how to do examinations online. Since then, Cikgu Tan has been actively sharing best practices with other schools to follow suit in using Frog.

Not only that, he is dedicated to ensure that his students are equipped with ICT skills. One of his initiative to encourage students to step up is by setting up a team of students that would help him in mentoring other students to use Frog, as well as support in taking care of computer devices.

“My students are always excited when they get to use Frog. They love it so much that they are willing to come back to school for Frog Classes held on weekends.”

- Cikgu Tan, senior teacher
