SK KIWAYAN, SABAH

Sekolah Kebangsaan Kiawayan is a rural school located within Tambunan, Sabah. The school has about 255 students - including students in pre-school - who come from low income families and 25 teachers. Majority of students do not have internet access at home, but parents are working towards getting internet connection at home for their children. The school is operating within an old building where facilities are quite old. They have an access room and 40 1Malaysia Netbooks where 20 are being optimized to use Frog.

The school only started using Frog in 2017 because previously the internet connection was too slow. They became active when they received YES 4G internet connection. During that time, the Frog Championships were ongoing, and this had motivated teachers and students even more to utilise Frog for teaching and learning. Headteacher Cikgu Geofrrey J. Chong was constantly encouraging teachers to use Frog. The school participated in the Frog Championships and was one of the Top 10 schools on a national level in Level Up: English.

Frog is making a difference in Teaching & Learning

Student progress

As most students did not have devices or internet access at home, they are very excited to learn with Frog. Teachers also motivated students to use Frog during the Frog Championships by awarding them certificate of achievement if they did well.  Through frequent use of Frog, students have gained ICT knowledge and skills. Using Frog has also helped students improve in their understanding in subjects such as Teknologi, Maklumat & Komunikasi (TMK). Frog allowed students a chance to learn practically on the subject, as opposed to only learning it in theory.

A tool for teachers to teach better

Frog has made it easier for teachers to share and assign quizzes to students for extra revision. Cikgu Cshahyrull Ronny, TMK teacher and Frog Admin, shares that he finds it easier to explain and help students understand the subject better by using visuals through the Frog VLE.

Parents are more connected with what is happening in school

Although having low income, parents are working hard to provide internet connection and devices at home as parents were made to understand the importance of learning through technology during the PIBG performance dialogue sessions.
