THE STAR – YTL Foundation giving free phones to B40 students

YTL Foundation calls on schoolteachers to nominate children from B40 families to receive free mobile phones as part of the foundation’s Learn from Home initiative.

PETALING JAYA: YTL Foundation is offering free mobile phones to families in the B40 (lower income) community with children in public schools who do not have smartphones or other smart devices.

The free mobile phones are part of its Learn from Home Initiative and are in addition to the free YES 4G SIM cards with 40GB of data and free learning resources made available to public school students two weeks ago.

To ensure that the free mobile phones are given to families most in need, the foundation is calling on schoolteachers to submit nominations as teachers would be in the best position to identify these families.

Puan Sri Sherina Aris (pic), a former teacher and wife of YTL Foundation trustee Tan Sri Aris Othman, said,”I fully agree that teachers are best placed to evaluate the needs of the students in their class.”

The foundation’s chairman Tan Sri Francis Yeoh Sock Ping added: “We salute all teachers and we trust them to help us ensure that their most needy students will receive the free mobile phones.”

Each mobile phone will come with a prepaid YES 4G SIM card and a 12-month data plan with 120GB of data in total.

Teachers can nominate students to receive the free phone at www.ytlfoundation.org/learn.

Successful candidates will be notified and will be required to submit their registration for the free mobile phone and 12-month YES 4G data plan.
