Since the first Frog Classroom Makeover in 2014, the Frog Classroom Programme has been providing a space for students to learn creatively and for teachers in the community to learn and share new classroom experiences together.
To celebrate its 100th Anniversary, SK Kayang, Perlis becomes the first school in Perlis to receive a Frog Classroom Makeover, a collaborative effort between YTL Foundation and FrogAsia. Funds were raised through the education crowdfunding platform of YTL Foundation’s fundraising partner, 100% Project.
The celebration and launch of the new Frog Classroom was graced by the Raja Muda of Perlis DYTM Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail and the Perlis State Assembly Speaker YB Dato' Hamdan Bahari.
SK Kayang’s headmistress, Pn. Noridah Hamdan - recipient of the Special Appreciation Award for our 1BestariNet Teacher Awards 2017 - believes that it is important for teachers to use technological aids for effective teaching and learning. Under her leadership, SK Kayang has also been recognised for excellence in adopting 21st century teaching and learning by becoming the first school to receive four-star honors from the 21st century teaching and learning program organized by the Sekretariat Utusan Pelajar in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
Last year, states in the north faced a really bad heat wave that caused all schools to be shut down. Although schools were physically closed, SK Kayang continued their lessons through the Frog VLE. Teachers sent revision material to students sitting for the UPSR examinations through the Frog VLE.
Besides teaching and learning, teachers in SK Kayang also use the Frog VLE for administrative purposes. As the Headmistress, Pn. Noridah uses the platform to monitor the performance of teachers and helps them incorporate the use of technology in their teaching activities.
It is success stories like this that continues to drive us at FrogAsia in our journey to transform and catalyse change in education through technology. We want to continue to encourage schools in their journey towards 21st century teaching and learning so that they, too, will become catalysts of change in their community.
