Don’t let anxiety affect your grades!

Dealing with examination stress can be difficult.
However, stay calm, it will be okay.
Remember these simple tips to help prepare you for all examinations.

 

1. Breathe in. Breathe out. Repeat.

Close your eyes, clear your mind and relax your body.
Take a deep breath through your nose for 4 seconds.
Hold your breath for 7 seconds.
Exhale through your mouth for 8 seconds.
Repeat this for as many times as needed and feel yourself calm down.

 

2. Get Organised

Be aware of your exam timetable and create a study plan.
It’s up to you if you want to focus on one subject or multiple subjects per day.
Below is a sample template you can use.

Try your best to avoid any distractions from noisy environments or your phones.
Remember to take a 30 minute break every hour of study!
Get up and move – even if it’s for a quick stretch.
Fetch yourself a glass of water or wash your face if you’re feeling sleepy.

 

3. Study Smart

This applies to every student at any given time!
Be honest with yourself and how prepared you are. Questions to ask yourself:

(i) Do I have all my notes?
Yes – Great! Level up and recall your notes.
Try your best to understand and avoid memorising the answers.
Work on the topics you understand the least!

No – Review past homework and refer to your textbook when answering.
Don’t be shy and ask your teacher for a summary of concepts you don’t understand.

(ii) Do I have past question papers?
Practice makes perfect! Test your understanding with past year exam questions.
It can help you spot common questions asked during exams and
understand common patterns and formats of the exam.

(iii) How much time do I have left?
Time yourself when you answer past question papers.
Set an alarm to see if you can complete a paper in time.

Try your best to answer concisely, it doesn’t matter how many papers
you need in your exams. Stay calm and be confident. You can do it!

 

4. Take Care of Yourself

It’s haze season, we advise you to avoid spending time outdoors.
Try to drink plenty of water – at least 2 litres a day!
Get plenty of sleep and avoid sugary snacks.
